Overview

Paramag is incredible.The combo of the magnet setup plus the centrifugal effect from the disc is really cool. Its ability to minimize backlash to zero (set on around 4-5) but still get excellent distance is impressive. It’s like having a better Shimano DC without that noise. I hope this braking system comes into other models Lews reels.
Great, extremely light reelI use this reel with weightless Senkos with no problems. I can cast them a country mile with no problems or backlash. It’s not backlash proof however. You still have to apply some common sense. As with any reel. You smack a dock flipping and it will backlash like any other reel.
This reel is comparable to my Shimano Curado 150DC reels, with two exceptions. This reel is much lighter than the Curado and fits into my hand a little better. However, the gold finish rubs off quite easily. I put this reel in my friends rod box with my other reels and we made a three hour drive. The reel must have been touching something because the finish was rubbed off on several spots when we got there. Darn nice reel, I just wish the beautiful gold finish was a little more durable.
Casting ability vs Anti backlashAs an avid lews angler I’ve used the custom lite along with hypermag for the last few season and love them, very durable and the casting distance is great. After spending a few hours with the new Gen 3 here is my first thoughts. It’s very hard to get the reel to backlash, just to get a little over run with a 1/2oz flipping jig I had the tension very low and the brakes 1-2 out of 10 settings. For someone new or struggling with back lashing this is the reel for you bar none! I did several test comparing cast distance and I feel you may lose distance with the new breaking. You can decide if you want casting distance with possible over run or less distance with no issues from line over run.
May bet the best reel on the market. Period!I know my review title is a bold statement, but I have been using and reviewing a number of reels from the top makers and this reel stands out as the best, in the category of anti-backlash reels. For many fisherman, that means the best reel on the market.
I have only used the reel a few days for cranking 3/8oz cranks baits and every time I pickup this reel and cast, I'm amazed. It casts long, and the anti-backlash finishes off the cast with full delight. Yes, delightful is the best description.
I also have a new 2024 Metanium DC that is a delight to cast, but it is more the $200 more than the Custom Pro and I'm not sure it is that much better.
What about the drag? So far so good. As I catch more fish, I will know more.
What about durability? That will take time to tell as well.
The gold color? Bold for sure.
