Bates ogDecent reel. Nice and light. Good feel. Paired with a Destroyer fmj makes a fine 1/2 jig combo. I use 16 lb. Sniper floro on this reel. A little touchy on the casting adjustments until you get used to it. Drag is smooth .

Don’t buy (Made by Chinese Loongze Brand)Bought this real a week ago, took it out on the water two days in a row and learned that the brakes do not work at all. Even with the internal brake at setting 5 and the magnetic brakes turned all the way up, it was casting, like it had no brakes at all. After what feels like 100 birds nest (using 14lb flouro) I’m over it. It really sucks because I wanted to like this real just due to the fact that it’s all beautifully machined aluminum. I’ve owned Lews Tournament Pros, Shimano Curados/Scorpions, and even cheap Piscifun Baitcasters, all of which easily outcast this reel and are 10X easier to tune. Also if you do a little bit of research you will find that Bates Co. didn’t really design/engineer anything new. This reel can be bought straight from Loongze, with a few subtle differences. Even the Hundo and other series are taken straight from the Loongze website. This really blows, especially since I’m from Texas and originally thought that this was a fully US based brand. Sorry for the rant!

It’s a beautyI’ve been looking at a Bates reel for a while, and the cosmetics + specs of the OG made it a fit for me. Yes, there is an argument to spend the same $ on a Daiwa or Shimano but I wanted to treat myself to something unique and I have not been disappointed. This reel looks fantastic and I’ve been bombing lures from up to 1oz without any hassle. The round profile is small in the hands but feels weighty and powerful enough… I’m still a novice with baitcasting but I haven’t come close to back lashing on this reel yet and it’s smooth as butter. I also love the added touch of a drag clicker.

Superior PerformanceThis reel is smooth, controllable, and casts a mile. One of the best offerings on the market and definitely tied for no.1 concerning the current Bates lineup, along with their Salty Hundo. Good in the the sweet and the salt, this relie is always with me on the water.

Best reel on the marketThis reel has been a solid reel, I’ve been able to reel in all types of salt water species fish with it, from speckled trout, flounder, slot redfish even some bull reds pushing 40 inches it’s insane how much this reel can handle but not only that it has stay smooth since the first day I’ve got it as I’m going on a year of having this reel definitely recommend it.
